An Iron Profile (Iron Studies) is a blood test that measures your body's iron levels and helps identify the cause of anaemia (low haemoglobin). It tells whether your anaemia is due to lack of iron, poor absorption, blood loss, pregnancy, or, rarely, excess iron. Common symptoms include tiredness, weakness, hair fall, pale skin, and breathlessness on exertion. This test helps your doctor determine whether you need iron tablets, dietary changes, further tests such as serum ferritin, or an evaluation for blood loss from periods, the stomach, or the intestines.
